Armadale Arts Bush Trail
13 May 2019 at 10.00 am - 2.00 pm
The natural beauty of the Armadale Settlers Common East will be highlighted during the inaugural Armadale Arts Bush Trail. Local schools and community groups have been working with local artists Renae Whyte and Elise Marshall to create stunning ephemeral artworks utilising the natural materials of the area.
Guided by nationally and internationally renowned land artist Elaine Clocherty, the Armadale Arts Bush Trail provides a serene environment to stroll around and enjoy nature while your eyes wander, exploring the natural bush in all its glory.
While you are there, consider putting your own hand to an artwork as you are invited to also contribute to a major work created by Elaine Clocherty.
The art trail is fully accessible with artworks viewed from the pathways, accessible toilets will be on site and ACROD parking will be reserved.

Most of Armadale Settler’s Common contains bushland in good condition, however there are several disused gravel pits and other degraded areas within the reserve that are prime locations for revegetation efforts.
This particular site was revegetated by the ASCWG as part of a project restoring gravel pits and track that resulted in 24,000 trees and shrubs planted between the year 1989 and 1997 as part of the continuing revegetation program. Since that time, further revegetation has been carried out along streams in the reserve and around the Environment Centre.

More information about the artists is as follows:
Elaine Clocherty
As a site specific artist, for 20 years, I work directly in the landscape, using found local natural materials and allow the stories and characteristics of a place to directly inform the work. I try to follow my intuition to genuinely collaborate with the landscape. I have worked with Australian Aboriginal Artists and Elders in the creation of artworks and now understand that getting permission from and if graced, collaborating with traditional owners is a crucial step for works being at home in their place.

I hope that this project equips our local community with creative skills and vision for land art, to bring a great awareness of our beautiful surroundings and encourage people of all abilities to think of nature as their canvas. I believe it is a great way to focus on respect and knowledge of indigenous culture and land conservation. I can’t wait for the works to be seen.
Having lived in the Armadale area for 14 years, I have come to meet and work with many artists and creative young minds. It’s fair to say… creativity and culture runs deep in this community.”
