Music in the Hall – Cathie Travers
19 May 2019 at 12.00 pm - 2.00 pm
Cathie Travers is one of the finest accordionists in Australia. In a career spanning forty years she has created music for theatre, dance, film, radiophonic and concert performance – working with symphony orchestras, rock bands, electro-acoustic ensembles, jazz, cross-over and world-music groups. Cathie has toured nationally and internationally with Australian Chamber Orchestra/Meow Meow/Barry Humphries’ Weimar Cabaret, performed with Berliner Ensemble for their PIAF season of Threepenny Opera, with WASO in the Barbican [London]/PIAF coproduction of Dark Mirror, and frequently gigs around Perth in tango, jazz and world music bands. She has given around thirty performances as piano concerto soloist with WASO, and appears on twenty five CDs by various Australian artists including Juliana Areias, Helen Matthews, Gary Ridge, Four on Six, Snakefish, Andrew Ford, Catherine Jensen-Hole, Bernard Carney, David Hyams, Nova Ensemble, Mixt, and Grace Barbe.
Travers performed at two events during the 2018 Armadale Festival: with the PSO in their Baroque by Candelight program, and with CSO String Quintet in the Live at The Chapel series.
Cathie loves to play solo, and will be presenting a program of mostly South American music on June 19th for the Music in the Hall series. You can expect some great latin grooves with fabulous melody!
